Project Lead

We are currently looking for a Freelance Project Lead to support major high-voltage substation infrastructure projects for a leading Belgian company in the energy sector.

This role focuses on the coordination and delivery of strategic electrical infrastructure projects linked to high-voltage substations within a dynamic and highly technical environment supporting the energy transition.

Mission Overview

The consultant will contribute to electrical infrastructure projects involving:

• High-voltage substations
• Infrastructure projects ranging from:
• 380 kV
• 220 kV
• 150 kV
• 70 kV
• 36 kV

You will participate throughout the full project lifecycle — from technical studies and engineering design to execution and final project closure.

The role is part of the Infrastructure Projects Department and offers strong exposure to critical infrastructure programs supporting sustainable energy systems.

• Hybrid setup:
• Minimum 2 onsite days required per week

Key Responsibilities

End-to-End Project Coordination

• Participate in:
• Project definition
• Technical studies
• Engineering design
• Project execution
• Administrative closure
• Ensure smooth coordination throughout the project lifecycle

Technical Engineering Support

• Perform and supervise technical studies
• Contribute to engineering calculations and analyses
• Support technical decision-making for substation infrastructure projects

Budgeting & Planning

• Develop and monitor project budgets and timelines
• Coordinate resources and project schedules
• Ensure alignment between project delivery, stakeholder expectations, and technical constraints

Procurement & Tendering

• Prepare tender documentation and specifications
• Participate in procurement and supplier selection processes
• Coordinate with contractors and external suppliers

Site Coordination & Execution

• Lead and coordinate execution activities on-site
• Collaborate with:
• Internal engineering teams
• Contractors
• Suppliers
• Customers and stakeholders
• Ensure execution quality, safety, and planning objectives are respected

Reporting & Communication

• Communicate project progress and delivery status
• Ensure transparent reporting to stakeholders
• Support coordination between technical and operational teams

Your Profile

Mandatory Requirements

• Master’s degree in:
• Electrical Engineering
• Electromechanical Engineering
• Or equivalent through relevant experience
• Strong technical affinity and engineering mindset
• Strong organizational and coordination capabilities
• Customer-oriented communication style with assertiveness

Nice to Have

• Experience in:
• Project management
• Site supervision
• Infrastructure delivery
• Interest in the energy sector and electrical networks

Languages

• Dutch: fluent/native level required
• Knowledge of the second national language is considered a strong asset
• English: professional working level is a plus
